Ideally, we would prefer a regular sitter (college-age minimum) who is comfortable being around a special needs child, to be a present, responsible adult for when my wife and I need to run errands or just need a date night. Our children mostly tend to themselves, playing video games, watching TV, or just hanging out in their rooms. Our care concerns revolve around our oldest son (who has the special needs); while he is self-sufficient most of the time, he can be upset by conflict (like his siblings arguing) and may need a calming voice who is not his siblings.
