The role of the Nursery Worker is to provide safe, reliable, and compassionate care for the young children of Second Presbyterian Church and its visitors. 1. Provide nursery care for Sunday mornings year-round, and other special evening or weekday events as scheduled by the Nursery Coordinator. This may include, but is not limited to: Sunday mornings: 8:30am-12:30 p.m. Sept-May. 8:30am-11:30 a.m. June-Aug. Evening VBS (June), Morning VBS (July), Church Retreat (August). During committee meetings or other special programs, as able. 2. Maintain a welcoming and organized system for nursery check-in and pick-up. This includes, but is not limited to: Arrive 30 minutes prior to nursery opening. Remain until all children safely secured with the adult named on sign-in sheet. Greet parents and children as they arrive. Maintain a sign-in sheet to record parents' names and contact information, along with any additional information about each child (e. g., allergies). 3. Ensure age-appropriate care, which includes: feeding, changing diapers, maintaining clean environment, holding infants and toddlers. 4. Interact cheerfully with children through games, stories, crafts, and play. Consider opportunities to share Bible stories and songs. Core Competencies: Compassion and Care: Exudes a natural sense of care for the well-being of others, responds with empathy to the life circumstances of others, communicates a sense of support in his or her very presence, uses appropriate language with care, demonstrates appropriate and boundaries expressions of care. Initiative: Enjoys working hard, is action oriented and energetic about role, not fearful of trying new things, seizes opportunities, sets demanding but achievable objectives for self and others. Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the skills of active listening and openly accepts criticism, holds others accountable in a spirit of love, engages people positively, with a demeanor of optimism and abundance. Qualifications and Skills: 1. 15 years of age or older. 2. Some past experience in the care of infants through children 4 years of age with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics. 3. Physically able to bend, lift, and hold infants and young children. 4. Must achieve and maintain infant and young children CPR certification and necessary vaccinations.
