Hamden Edux is on the search for loving and supportive host families for several international students arriving in Cincinnati to study for the 24-25 school year. Our students are sophomores in high school (ages 15/16). All students are from Asia (primarily Hangzhou, China) and will be under my care and support while studying here in Cincinnati. Some information is below along with my family's personal hosting experience but feel free to reach out with specific questions/interest or pass this information on to families you may think are interested. Basic Hosting information: What does hosting a student mean? Hosting a student is simply opening your heart and home to an international student. The student is a part of your family and everyday life. Students are here for academic and cultural purposes. The goal is to graduate and then go on to college here in the US. What do host families provide? How much are host families compensated (stipend amount)? A safe, loving and supportive home is a must. Host families enjoy sharing all that Cincinnati and their family has to offer to their student. Students adapt to a host families schedule, way of living, food and home standards/rules. Host families provide a bedroom in their home for their student with electric, water and internet. ($900 monthly stipend) Host families provide breakfast and dinner. Students can buy lunch at school or pay host families $200/monthly for packed lunches to take to school. How long do students stay with a host family? When do students arrive and depart? Students arrive in August (The School start date is Aug. 21) Students depart back to China for their Winter/Christmas break (around Dec. 20th) and return Jan 5th to resume school. Students depart back to China at the end of the school year in May. Host families can host for one year or consecutive years. Totally up to each individual family. Our personal hosting experiences: My family and I have hosted over 8 years. Our host son graduated in 2020 and Richard graduated from college in 2021. We're now hosting our host daughter, who attends The school and will graduate in 2027. Thank you for considering opening your heart and home.
