My 10-year-old pretty much keeps himself busy with his screens. Getting him away to the park, if the weather is good, is great. They can walk to the park with an adult. My daughter loves to play pretend, princesses, dolls, and crafts. The kids are pretty shy at first but will warm up. They are good, pretty quiet kids. I have two big dogs so comfort with dogs is a must. They don't need much, just to be let outside occasionally. They will bark at you initially.
