Overland Park Christian Church seeks to fill the position of Nursery Attendant for Sunday morning worship and occasional evening church activities. Please send your interest in this position to JOBSEARCH@OPCCDOC.ORG or apply here through Care. com
Responsibilities include: Greeting children and their caregivers, caring for children during church events and worship, organizing toys and supplies, cleaning toys and supplies, keeping the nursery clean and welcoming.
The schedule is two-three Sundays per month from 9:15am-12:00 p.m. , and only occasionally during the week for church events or certain holidays (only 5-6 times per year). Our nursery coordinator will provide the schedule with other nursery attendants. Currently we have one and are looking to hire a 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th attendant. Sunday morning worship begins at 9:30 a.m. and typically lasts an hour, but on occasion might go longer, so while 12noon is typically your end time 12:15 p.m. might be the end time on occasion. Your pay will reflect the time worked.
We will also welcome you to bring your child(ren) with you and have programming available for children 5+, or they can stay in the nursery if they are under 5.
Our top priority as nursery/childcare provider at Overland Park Christian Church (OPCC) is to provide a safe space for children while their caregivers are in a class, worship, or a meeting. We accomplish this by nurturing, engaging with, and loving each child. Church may be one of the first places a child separates from his/her parents which can cause some feelings of unease. It is our job to help them feel secure and safe.
As a faith community, personal faith of our employees IS NOT a requirement. We do expect our caregivers to maintain a respectful and compassionate attitude toward children, their caregivers, and peers. This means we accept all children and adults for who they are, deserving of respect and grace, regardless of faith. We are a welcoming community, including varying orientations and family make-up and expect our staff to express this level of welcome.
Though we DO NOT expect our nursery attendants to profess a certain (or any) faith, our community is guided by Jesus' welcome of children, from the scripture in Matthew 19:14:
Allow the children to come to me," Jesus said. "Don't forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children." (Common English Bible)
