Our daughter is a very verbal 21-month-old who does not watch television. She enjoys playing with her dolls and stuffed animals and reading books. We have introduced her to Spanish, Korean, and Portuguese through reading and music, and she is interested when listening to French. A sitter who can engage in any of those languages is a bonus. She is not yet potty trained--but enjoys sitting on the potty and doing nothing--and will require diaper changes. It is okay to let her have independent play time if she is content doing so, but structured learning time is important as well. We have a small dog that spends time outside and on the lower level of the house, which is good for a sitter who is uncomfortable around pets. However, they are welcome to let the dog upstairs to play.
