Walnut Creek-based family is seeking after-school care for their 12-year-old who is on the autism spectrum. The ideal candidate is familiar with special needs. Care is needed Thursdays 2:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. and Fridays 3:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. The child is very sweet and cheerful. He currently uses a mixture of iPad, early ASL, and gestures to communicate. No major behaviors of concern, though at times he becomes overstimulated and will exhibit silly behavior which looks like continuous laughing and giggling. On occasion, light hitting may occur during overstimulated periods as he seeks to gain your attention. The family is very familiar with triggers and knows how to prevent silly behavior from occurring. This information will be shared with the caregiver. This role would involve structuring his day with appropriate activities and assisting with meal times, and toileting routines. Mostly you will be there to have fun and play alongside the child. He enjoys dancing, reading, watching videos, and singing.
