About the job
Our family is unique since my son has a nervous system disability and is on the autism spectrum, and I am a single mom. Slowly and with his cooperation, I'm helping him re-engage with the world as he recovers from nervous system burnout. The way I parent gives him a great deal of autonomy and emphasizes nonverbal and non-directive methods, so I'm looking for someone who will be patient and flexible with this approach. You might engage in parallel play at first. Having a book to read while he does his own thing is also fine. Since we use a self-directed learning approach with homeschooling, I will sit nearby but not force engagement. As a bond develops, setting up a regular time 2-3hrs. (weekdays) will allow him to re-engage with the outside world. Must enjoy playing video games and have a good sense of humor.
