By using HomePay for your household employment needs, you’re offloading the tax, payroll and compliance responsibilities for your nanny or caregiver to us. However, one of the responsibilities you have is making sure your account is funded when it’s time for us to make tax payments to the IRS, make tax payments to the state and collect fees for using our service.
We will always email you well in advance of any collection date so you know how much we need to debit from your account and when that debit will occur. But we also want to be completely transparent with what we’re doing, so please bookmark the schedule below so you can feel prepared for the 2024 tax year.
Note: Not every state follows the exact schedule below. Don’t worry — we’ll email you before each debit!
2024 HomePay Tax and Fee Collection Calendar
January 5: We’ll collect our service fee if your HomePay account was active in October, November or December of 2023.
January 8: We’ll collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes withheld from your employee from September through December of 2023. We’ll also collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment taxes you owe as a household employer during this same time period. These taxes make up the fourth estimated tax payment for the 2023 tax year and are generally more than the other 3 collection periods because it comprises 4 months of activity.
January 16: We’ll collect the state unemployment insurance taxes you owe and the state income taxes withheld from your employee from October through December of 2023. We’ll send these taxes to your state along with a corresponding state tax return.
February 7: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for January.
March 7: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for February.
April 5: We’ll collect our service fee if your HomePay account was active in January, February or March.
April 8: We’ll collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes withheld from your employee from January through March. We’ll also collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment taxes you owe as a household employer during this same time period. These taxes will be sent to the IRS as your first estimated tax payment of 2024.
April 15: We’ll collect the state unemployment insurance taxes you owe and the state income taxes withheld from your employee from January through March. We’ll send these taxes to your state along with a corresponding state tax return.
May 7: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for April.
June 6: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for May.
June 7: We’ll collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes withheld from your employee during April & May. We’ll also collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment taxes you owe as a household employer during this same time period. These taxes will be sent to the IRS as your second estimated tax payment of 2024.
July 8: We’ll collect our service fee if your HomePay account was active in April, May or June.
July 16: We’ll collect the state unemployment insurance taxes you owe and the state income taxes withheld from your employee from April through June. We’ll send these taxes to your state along with a corresponding state tax return.
August 7: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for July.
September 6: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for August.
September 9: We’ll collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal income taxes withheld from your employee from June through August. We’ll also collect the Social Security, Medicare and federal unemployment taxes you owe as a household employer during this same time period. These taxes will be sent to the IRS as your third estimated tax payment of 2024.
October 7: We’ll collect our service fee if your HomePay account was active in July, August or September.
October 16: We’ll collect the state unemployment insurance taxes you owe and the state income taxes withheld from your employee from July through September. We’ll send these taxes to your state along with a corresponding state tax return.
November 7: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for October.
December 5: We’ll collect our service fee if you’re on our monthly billing schedule for November.
