Once a month CHS stays open after dark for a relaxed, social evening of art, pizza, and friends — while grown-ups get a night of their own! This month artists will learn 4 different painting techniques mixed to create one wonderful radial composition. Our first layer is an exploration of watercolor, blending wet on wet and creating pattern. We'll eat pizza while it dries. Then we'll jump in with tempera learning to create texture and add details with an opaque layer. We'll wind down with art films before the night ends at 8:45. Mixed ages 5–10. Little ones get more help and big kids get more room to run with it. This one isn't from our regular class curriculum — weekly students won't be repeating anything they've done. This month artists turn a plain ceramic pot and a faux fern into one very funky houseplant. We start by choosing a color story — three or four colors to lead with — then paint the pot and the leaves. While everything dries, we eat cheese pizza. Then out come the Posca markers for the personality layer: dots, stripes, tiny stars, a little face, veins running down the center of a leaf. This month artists will create hanging sculptures from carefully selected and painted wood blocks. We'll choose our shapes and paint them. While everything dries, we'll eat cheese pizza. Then we'll return to the art room to string them all up to create beautiful, unique hanging assemblages. We'll wind down with art films before the night ends at 8:45. Mixed ages 5–10.
