What your child’s day will look like
For Earth Day, students can create an engaging art piece using the eucalyptus tree as inspiration through a pastel and watercolor resist technique. They start by sketching the distinctive eucalyptus foliage and outlining it with oil pastels, which act as a resist to watercolor applications, highlighting texture and form. Applying watercolors over the pastel outlines, the sketches vividly come to life as the watercolors bleed into the paper while the pastel areas remain intact. This project not only fosters creativity but also encourages environmental awareness by reflecting on the role of trees in ecological health. Children will be exposed to a variety of mediums and work on building up new skills. Dress for a mess! We often use acrylic paints, which can be very difficult to remove from clothing.
