I have been working in my present job for just over a year caring for a 26 year old lady, with a mental age of 18 months. She is very strong willed and active, with behaviour that needs a lot of encouraging and reassurance and a long list of medical conditions, which need to be managed throughout the day. But we attend clubs and participate in many activities. This includes, arts and crafts, gym work, walking, music therapy and I. T. I also worked in the community for 4 years caring for the unwell and elderly, with a wide variety of illnesses and I regularly supervised a Dementia development club, where we spent time together as a group singing, cooking, crosswords, arts and crafts, gardening and writing and performing plays. Using an unchallenging, unquestioning approach and the butterfly affect, so that everybody felt equal. This gave them the confidence to participate without feeling uncomfortable and the results were amazing. I have my level 3 in coaching, which has helped me to give people time to express and develop their own ideas and encourage them to put them into practice and this has very good results, not only at work but also at home.
