I'm a PhD researcher in Volcanology, before which I obtained a Masters degree in Earth Sciences from the University of St. Andrews.
I have experience tutoring high school students in Maths and Science. As a PhD researcher, I have demonstrated a range of undergraduate Geology modules for 2nd and 3rd year students. I have also published two research papers and presented at several conferences, so can assist with editing and presentations.
I work together with the student to identify problem areas and possible solutions, making use of past papers and homework exercises which students can bring to sessions to receive targeted help. My goal is to teach students to understand the underlying principles, as this equips you to tackle challenging questions.
I prefer coaching a student through the problem; students are often not lacking in ability but rather confidence, and I find that a collaborative step-by-step approach highlights the knowledge a student already has.
I encourage you to ask questions along the way. No two people are the same, and so the environment I foster is different for every student. The goal is nevertheless the same - to build confidence and develop skills, and to do so in a compassionate and supportive space.
