I use the Reading Reflex method by Guinness and Guinness, and some Montessori materials. What I do: ~ Assess your child's current abilities ~ Plan the course and goals for your child ~ Teach reading (decoding of) words based on phonics ~ Teach sight words such as "the" ~ Encourage reading fluency and interpretation for effective comprehension ~ Focus on Dolce words ~ Teach basic sentence structure As an experienced ECE Preschool Teacher, I took many classes and workshops on brain development, literacy and teaching children to read. I have helped many children in my classes learn to read over the years. I have also been a reading tutor and helped several clients over a 2 year period. I have materials, but I also make materials and games based on the interests of the child I am working with. When children are taught using fun, interactive and physically active activities based on their own interests, and receive immediate positive personal encouragment they are more engaged and learn faster. Tutoring your child for 50 minutes means I spend a couple of hours preparing each tailored and specific lesson, and buying the relevant supplies. This is reflected in the fee.
