Several times I was asked to tutor someone, usually a girl, in algebra. In the last case I gave her one lesson. When I asked her stepfather when I should give her the net lesson he told me that she only needed one lesson, and that her marks had improved a lot in other subjects as well. Before this lesson I thought that she had somehow missed one fact but later I realized that it was a confidence problem.
