I have a fair amount of experience with children who have special needs. I am currently volunteering at Centennial Infant and Childcare Centre. In this daycare I work together with an interdisciplinary team of educators, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and families to reach a common objective apprehending diverse needs, strengths and challenges of individual children and their diagnoses. Apart from Centennial, I work with a 2 ½ year old girl with autism, as well as with a 7 year old girl diagnosed with CDLS (Cornelia De Lange Syndrome). I am understanding of the diversity on how children experience the world around them and how these differences can be observed in how children communicate, play, eat etc. This has allowed me to distinguish individuals' strengths and challenges and support them where applicable, whether this involves simple patience or modification of activities and/or expectations.
