I discovered my passion for caring and teaching people with special needs when I was in elementary school and required Learning Assistance. While in learning assistance, I formed a bond with my LA teacher and EA that I still maintain today in the LA room I was allowed to and shown how to teach others and how to make learning material accessible. From that point on I made it my goal to become a Educational Assistant and Community Support Worker. While at VIU, I also fell in love with sign language from a fellow student and has been slowly learning since. I will be taking online sign language classes starting in September. My past special needs care experience include: peer tutoring during high school, practicum placement, on-call employment and most of my experience has come from my personal life. Diagnoses that I have assisted with are: Spinal Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder and varying degrees of Autism. I am also qualified with child care, senior care and tutoring.
