I have 4 years experience and really enjoy helping people. Working with people who have special needs has been a great learning experience; I really like knowing that I am leaving a positive impact on their lives. My special needs experience starts with my placements I did in college, some of the opportunities I had were placements in schools, working with students who have autism, working at Wind Reach Farms with a variety of individuals with special needs and working in a group home with all boys between the ages of 14-18 with behavioral issues. Since October I have been a support worker of two individuals with autism, I take them to Wind Reach Farms two days a week and support them in their work program, I teach them life skills, guide them with day-to-day tasks and help them live a more independent life. As of 2019 I am a Special Needs Educational Assistant for the Durham Catholic District school board, I work with a variety of different students and I am always constantly learning and being put in different environments. I find this work very rewarding.
