I've owned dogs. But when I had to put my last dog down, it affected me deeply. I loved him so much, he was my best friend. I never put any of my dogs in kennels, if I couldn't find someone to look after them, or they couldn't come with me, I didn't go. So I figured the next best thing was to care for other dogs in my home and treat them as if they were my own. They are allowed on my furniture, sleep with me, and I love them up. I have a large fenced in backyard for them to run & it makes me happy knowing that these dogs are not stuck in kennels.
