I am a 41 year old female who has over 30 years of experience with children. I am on an extended holiday staying with my aunt in Thornhill, I currently don't have a permit or visa to allow me to work in Canada but I intend (with assistance from my employer) to obtain all required paperwork. I have looked after children between the ages of 1 month to 16 years, I have been a certified first aider but would need to renew my certification. I recently completed a British Sign Language course so am able to communicate to a certain degree, but aware that American Sign Language is used in Canada. My most relevant paid experience was in a primary school and was responsible for 4 autistic boys aged 6 & 7. I was in charge of the daily care while school, aiding them in their studies, helping them behaviourally to ensure they were able to cope with the situations that faced them. The work was challenging and very emotional but also very rewarding. In my most recent un-paid experience I looked after 3 children aged 3,5 & 9, I was responsible for the general wellbeing, meals, helping with reading, homework and the bedtime routine and playing games both educational and fun.
