Verbal but not fully conversational, toilet trained, energetic teen boy who likes some down time but likes and needs to be busy, changing activities and locations, lots of walks in the neighbourhood and at various waterfronts. We need some after school care, picking him up from school and keeping him engaged (not just occupied) as much as possible, and safe of course. This will include helping him learn and practice basic life skills both in the home and in the community. We need a steady weekly schedule (the same days of the week, each week) but are flexible on the number of days per week with a minimum of 3 days weekly, and for a minimum of 2 hours each of those days. What we are truly hoping and looking for is long term help such that our son and his caregiver build a relationship reaching the point that mom and dad can maybe go out for the evening or, maybe go out over night!
Please contact us to arrange a phone call and/or meeting to discuss further and see if we are a fit.

I am seeking a compassionate and patient Live-In Caregiver for my two 21-year-old twin sons, who both have Friedrich's Ataxia. They are dependent on wheelchairs and require assistance with daily tasks, including personal care such as showering, dressing, and toileting. In addition to this, the role encompasses tidying up their living space, a few household chores and preparing their meals.
It's crucial to note that this position involves being available during the evenings and nighttime to provide help if necessary. Typically, the caregiving duties per day span 3 to 4 hours, which may also involve some stretching, utilizing the standing machine, and offering other forms of physical therapy. Providing companionship to the boys is highly valued.
The position will initially be based in Acton starting from September 3, 2024, and later will be transitioning to Whitby within a 4 month timeframe in alignment with the availability of a new home being built that will be suitable for their needs. The house will include a modern basement apartment designated for the caregiver, offering a comfortable live-in solution. During the transition period, flexibility would be greatly appreciated.
The work schedule would largely cover the middle of the day and evenings, spanning from Monday to Sunday. It's a full-time position, requiring 20-30 hours of service per week. Time off would be every other weekend for 3-4 days.
As for responsibilities, they entail bathing assistance, range-of-motion exercises, housekeeping, shopping for groceries, meal planning and preparation, cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, laundry and overall supervision of the home. Additionally there is a requirement to assist with transfers, requiring some lifting, in addition to administering Insulin injections when necessary. The use of a Hoyer Lift will be made available for lifting/standing assistance.
Please note that a driver's license isn't required for this role, and automobile use is not applicable within this position.
We are seeking someone who is compassionate, reliable, and committed to providing quality care to join our family. This is not just a job; it is an opportunity to make a significant difference in two young men's lives. We look forward to hearing from interested applicants.
