There are several factors you should expect to impact the rate of pay. Once you've figured out the basic pay rate, see the following information to help you adjust the rate as needed.
Amount of child care
Do you need a caregiver full time, part time, or just for occasional help?
If it's part-time, is it for the same days and times each week?
Is the job during the week, on weekends or some of each?
Location
Major metropolitan areas tend to have higher child care rates than rural areas.
Suburbs can also have much higher child care rates than rural areas, especially if they serve a large commuter population and are near a major city.
Number of children
Keeping an eye on 1 child is a lot different than watching 2 or 3 or more kids. Pay should reflect this. Your sitter or nanny needs to control a larger group, deal with kids interacting with each other, and be more aware of group dynamics than if they're watching 1 child.
Additional responsibilities
Many babysitters and nannies are happy to help with chores, as long as it doesn't interfere with their caregiving.
Asking your child caregiver to help with laundry or pick up groceries are definitely tasks requiring extra pay. Expect to pay at least another $1 - $2 per hour in addition to the basic rate.
Basic tidying up and getting the kids a snack are usually included in your basic rate - just be sure your babysitter or nanny knows what your expectations are.
Transportation
Is your child caregiver required to drive the kids all over town for lessons or play dates? Are they using your car or theirs?
If they're using their car, you'll want to offer extra compensation for the gas she uses while driving the kids. If they're using your car be sure you provide them with gas money if the tank needs filling. Some parents offer their child caregiver mileage compensation if they're commuting a long distance.
Experience
Experienced child caregivers get paid more than those with less experience. Paying more for experience can get you a sitter who can better meet your child care needs--and you get peace of mind too.
Qualifications
If you have a newborn or twins (or triplets!), you'll want a babysitter or nanny that has specific experience to match your needs. Expect to pay more per hour than the basic rate in your local area. It's worth it.
I am a mother of 6 sons. (28-18yrs old)
Thanks to care.com over the last 8 years I have been a nanny for 9 different families, 2 families with school age children and the other 6 families with a little ones between 4 months and 3 years old.
Before having my own children I had the pleasure of being a Teacher's Assistant with a deaf and Down Syndrome child.
I am seeking a childcare position for 2-3 days a week as I have my own house cleaning business with regular clients. My favourite things to do with children are reading books aloud and helping them to explore the outdoors.
I'm looking for a nanny position to start January 2025

I have raised 3 boys and am now retired from working for over 25+ yrs as a hospital security guard. I have 3 grandchildren between the ages of 8 to 20 yrs old. I am a caring grandmother who likes to spend time with them. I also love pets too. I would prefer to stay within the Wasaga Beach area. I also can provide references, one of my part-time jobs was after-school care of 3 girls with light house keeping, I also helped with a mom caring for a 7 month old baby part time, and assisting at a school with lunch supervision. I recently cared for a 18 month old during the day partime. I can contact you directly if need and can answer any further questions you may have on my schedule, wage or availability, as it can be flexible.

Available January 20th onwards.
In the last couple of years, I took care of a newborn to age 2 girl. In the last few months, I helped daily with my daughter's newborn to 3 month old.
I am able to provide part-time, and temporary child-care.
You might need me for example - if your child is sick and must stay home from day-care or school, you need to catch up on sleep if you have a new baby, if your nanny quit and you don't yet have a replacement, if you need to go to a course, attend to a family member, host a party, or simply have too much to do!
I hope I can help!

I love kids of all ages and I believe if you mold the mind young, they will grow to be well mannered, respectful and courteous young adults and that can all be done during play or before naptime with the right book or activity. I was lucky enough to raise 9-10 of my nieces & nephews.
