| Hey there! I have been working in disability since Feb 2018 and just feel like it's what I am made to do. I love my job and I love the people I have supported. I found my self looking into disability after studding AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) with the Deaf Society, and now that I think back, I have always been helping and supporting people with disabilities; I helped out in high school in my own free time. After AUSLAN I studied my cert III in Individual Support (Disability) and was straight away working for a big company to gain experience. Personally, I prefer more flexibility give those I support the best chance at empowerment but most of all person centred support. I'm a BIG animal lover, but unfortunately allergic to cats. I also have family in defence, so I am able to understand the ups and downs. I can be an out going, excitable, bubbly person, but I; and the other staff that I have previously worked with, find that I can adapt really amazingly to people and environment around me. | I worked as a Support Worker for The Brandon Trust for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism. In this role I was there to Support service users to lead a life of their choice. I generally worked on a 1:1 basis assisting in maintaining a happy, secure and stimulating environment for all service users. As people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders can present difficult-to-manage or challenging behaviours, I also have experience in behavioural management and using skills effective in calming service users. I administered medication as prescribed by the General Practitioner. I also supported with a range of domestic, self care and/or social skill tasks, many with service users to include: cooking, cleaning, vacuum cleaning, personal care, driving company vehicles. I maintained confidentiality for all areas of The Brandon Trust, its team, its work and most importantly I ensured the respect, dignity and rights to privacy for all service users as far as possible. I have a full UK drivers license and would drive service user' vehicles. I have always been committed to my work and I am a quick learner. I feel like I'm extremely suitable and will bring all the required needs to suit this job.
