| I have had the privilege of working with many families. In my most recent family, I cared for a boy aged 5 with ASD and Autism. We had a fabulous relationship, and over the 10 months I cared for him, we were able to work through/apply strategies to his social-emotional difficulties. I also cared for an 8-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. Although this was extremely challenging at times, I learnt a lot from her, and we also developed a close bond. In this position, my role was to bathe, dress, clean teeth and feed her. I was involved with her appointments and specialist, such as her OT. I find working with children who have additional needs extremely rewarding. As a carer/educator, I believe that I am the co-constructor and that all children have agency - My role is to be safe, grounded support for the child.
