Hello! I’m Dom. As someone with ADHD, I can absolutely understand the struggle of feeling different, or not enough in a world where everyone else ‘gets by’ so easily. I am skilled at providing tangible, useful and productive support that is non judgemental, patient and understanding. When this is achieved, I think that ‘disability’ is merely a word to describe a “thing” that requires a person to make a few alterations in their life to make it easier, more manageable, and importantly, their own. I am skilled at assisting with the small tasks of life, or the larger (job searches, schooling/study, hobbies, socialisation). I live with friends with ASD (autism), ADHD, Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. We assist with each other’s support needs. My work (YMCA) has provided me disability training. My young half sister has diabetes, and I assist and are aware of the processes of insulin tracking and injection. I also am experienced at testing my mother’s blood pressure routinely. It is my belief that co-morbid disorders such as anxiety and depression are important to consider when relating with a person with a disability.
