I cared for my husband who had Alzheimer's for 10 years before he went to a nursing home for the next five years. After he passed I gained the Cert IV in Ageing Support and since then I have kept up to date with manual handling - including hoists and slide sheet, safety in the workplace/home, infection control, fire safety, dysphasia and preparation of regular, minced moist and soft diets and I have three months experience with peg feeds. For the past 13 months I have worked as a carrot a Mercy Care nursing home. Prior to that I worked for a temping agency in nursing homes, private homes, group homes and with community access groups.
