My work as editor and as teacher required effective communication, creativity, attention to detail, collaboration, empathy and resilience on a daily basis. Every manuscript, every lesson plan is infinitely perfectible, and it takes resilience and kindness to treat this possibility of never being a 100% correct as a learning opportunity each time. As a teacher, I was able to build a nurturing relationship with my grade1 students and made it a point to be attentive to every child under my care, to communicate with them and their parents with empathy and thoughtfulness. I haven't worked as a babysitter professionally, however, I definitely count caring for my toddler nephews and nieces countless times as experience:), alongside helping neighbours with their children over the years, not to mention my work as a classroom teacher with thirty 5-yr-olds!
