For two years I was a loyal nanny to a beautiful family on the Northern Beaches. I was responsible for taking care of two boys aged 9 and 11. Some activities included picking them up from school, helping them with their homework, afternoon tea, taking them to after school sports/activities and cooking them dinner. I also did general household duties like cleaning, laundry and making their beds. I think it’s so important for the children’s mental health and well-being to spend any free time we have outdoors/ in nature to keep them off tech as much as possible. Whether that is going to the beach, park, skatepark, going for a nature walk or playing a sport. It was a true joy forming deep, respectful relationships based on spending quality time together and gaining a true understanding of each other. I have had much experience babysitting sporadically for families and I do enjoy that, however, there is something unmatched about being a constant influence and friend to a young person - especially during this strange time.
