I am a third-year nursing student who has finished four placements of aged care, orthopaedics and trauma, mental health and gastroenterology. I also have aged care working experiences in China and Australia. I previously worked as a nursing assistant in nursing homes, following the policy and procedures to provide the residents with assistance in cooking, feeding, personal hygiene, mobility, transferring, vital signs, checking blood glucose level, pressure relief and general communication. Additionally, I observed clients, gathered information, communicated with the team, and reported on the outcomes of care delivery as delegated for for good quality patient-centred care. Moreover, I had to manage time and prioritise problems on the busy ward to deliver care with empathy, compassion, respect and non-judgement. My nursing education, placements and previous nursing assistant working experience have developed my nursing knowledge and skills. This can help me adapt fast to work. I am from China with diverse cultures and religions. My education in China and Australia have shaped my values, which help me to respect different cultures and values. This can help me respect clients’ cultural backgrounds and value.
