Happy to interview for client and family Able to be paid via Aged Care or NDIS Package I trained as an Enrolled Nurse when I was 17 and have since worked in aged care and both public and private hospitals. While I had no doubt that nursing was my calling, as years went by I felt increasingly frustrated at the lack of time available for actual patient care due to inadequate ratios and ever-increasing documentation. In late 2019 one of my closest friends unexpectedly lost her father and suddenly became the sole carer of her mother who has dementia. I was scared for her - but also incredibly proud - there is no greater gift that she could give her mother than to help her to remain at home. I wanted to help my friend and volunteered to stay with her mum for a couple of days each month to give her a break. I found myself really enjoying having the time to give one-on-one support and my friend asked me to consider coming more often - but as a paid employee – paid through her mums aged care package. And so, my career has headed in a new direction, one where nursing duties blend with friendship and support, and one which gives me immense satisfaction.
