I started my care journey when my grandparents became ill and I helped them with everyday tasks such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and getting them dressed. In 2018 I started working IN home care in Scotland where I completed manual handling, dementia and first aid training. I visited a vast range of clients with different abilities and needs and offered support with all personal care (shower, body wash, shaving etc) to social support just having a chat and giving them companionship to helping with cleaning, shopping and appointments. In May 2018 I became a private live in dementia carer for an 84 year old woman with very low mobility and mental capacity. This role was very challenging at times but also very rewarding. I took her to all appointments, administered medication, offered companionship, cooked, cleaned and stayed at her house as she could not be left alone.
