Previous experience as a care assistant and a qualified Occupational Therapist (UK registration)
|
Whilst studying Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University, I worked as a care assistant for one year. Through this employment, I gained valuable hands-on experience in providing personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding, as well as assisting with meal preparation, shopping, mobility and medication management.
My experience as a qualified occupational therapist for two and an half years adds another dimension to my expertise in aged care. Occupational Therapy focuses on improving the independence and quality of life for individuals by helping them regain or develop skills necessary for daily living. In the context of aged care, this involved creating personalised care plans, recommending assistive aids/devices, and facilitating therapeutic activities to promote physical and mental well-being.
Combining my experience as a care assistant and an occupational therapist, I have a well-rounded understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by elderly individuals. I have skills in providing compassionate care, promoting independence, and enhancing overall quality of life.
