Compassionate, thoughtful, reliable, qualified, Aged Care Worker.
|
My name is Amy , a recent graduate of an Honours bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minor in Gerontology from the University . I am extremely excited to learn about the possible work opportunities in aged care and the potential ways I can contribute and make an impact on the aging population in and around Glen Innes.
For the past seven months leading up to my move to Glen Innes, I was fortunate enough to have a placement at a retirement/ assisted living facility in Waterloo, Canada. My role consisted of doing 1-on-1 visits with residents, leading therapy dog sessions, being a chair yoga instructor, and helping with community-building activities within the home such as Bingo, birthday parties, welcoming residents, movie sessions, bowling, and various other activities. My enthusiasm and kind nature allowed me to build meaningful relationships with residents, and increase my skills working with older adults.
For front line care, I have found it rewarding to help residents with daily activities such as organizing living spaces, companionship, implementing recreational and therapeutic activities, daily household tasks (cleaning, dishes, laundry) and assisting patients to take their medications if needed.
