“An ageing support role involves both hands-on care and liaison/advocacy.”

As I see it, an ageing support role involves both hands-on care and liaison/advocacy. I am a cheerful companion, switched on to all aspects of ageing (incl. dementia and dying with dignity) and glad to engage in all areas of ageing support other than excessive, unassisted manual handling. I have been caring for my 85yo father on and off for many years. During my stint of full-time caring during 2016/17 I engaged in a Cert 4 in Ageing Support to compliment my hands-on experience. I have experience in liaising with two home care agencies, have facilitated ACAT initial + priority waitlist assessments, liaised with OT’s, GP’s, specialists, hospitals + emergency, personal alarm company etc. etc. As my Dad says: “It’s not fun getting old” but we can assist in so many ways.
