Cancer is already a terrifying prospect for any adult. But when you’re a child with cancer, that fear and terror takes on completely unimaginable proportions.
The good news? You and your kids have the chance to do something REALLY cool and super easy to help one 3-year-old get through his chemo treatments: send him drawings of your favorite superheroes.
According to Today.com, Ben Austin was diagnosed last week with a form of pediatric kidney cancer called a Wilms tumor. As a result, he will have to undergo numerous surgeries and 12 weeks of chemotherapy to treat the tumor.
And again, this kid is 3 years old. How do you help a 3-year-old stay strong during such a scary time, let alone understand what’s even going on?
But one of Ben’s cousins had a brilliant idea: since Ben is such a huge fan of superheroes, why not have people send him a bunch of superhero drawings to inspire him and give him hope?
His family loved the idea and got on board; many of them took to social media to ask their friends and family to help them out with their wonderful project. (Above is an image of the Facebook call to action one of Ben’s aunts sent out.) This idea has even been given its own hashtag: #superheroesforbenny
If you want to be a real hero and help the Austin family with this task, all you have to do is make a drawing of your favorite superhero and send it to the following address:
Benjamin Austin

As for me, I’ll be sending a terrible stick-figure drawing of Superman. But,honestly, it’s the thought that counts, and Ben could probably use all the encouragement we can give him right now!
