Want to know what’s happening in your area? Need a good, relatable laugh? Check out these five blogs run by fellow Toledo mamas!
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I often found myself turning to the internet for advice and general preparation for the journey that was to come. I spent countless hours of maternity leave watching YouTube family vloggers and reading mom blogs. But it wasn’t until I started my own blog (The Momillennial) that I realized there are some pretty cool ladies right around me who not only share my passion for writing, but generate super relatable content as well.
Whether you’re a parent, babysitter, or nanny who needs to know what to do with the kids this weekend, are in search of instructions to construct a diaper cake with little time to spare, or just need a good laugh, these ladies are here for you!
On My Kids Plate, by Kristy Richardson
Kristy Richardson has attracted quite the following on her Facebook page since debuting in 2016. If you’ve seen the “mom’s fidget spinner” meme circulating the internet lately, you can thank her for that. If you haven’t seen it yet, click here to join in the fun.
Before starting On My Kids Plate, Richardson gained significant experience in freelance blogging. She wanted to start her own platform for a couple reasons. She wanted to help parents come up with fun food ideas for their kids, and she wanted to help other parents who struggle with picky eaters like her family did. It’s also a fun and creative outlet for her to connect with other parents.
When speaking with each of the lovely ladies featured in this article, I made sure to ask them for their advice to the new mom. Here’s what Richardson had to say:
“My unsolicited advice for the new mom is to always stick with your gut! There will be times when you will feel like you are not enough no matter what you do, but you really are enough! We don’t all have to be super mom at everything, but we can all learn from each other. Finding other parents who ‘get you’ helps so much!”
Mom on the Go in Holy Toledo, by Kat Tomasewski
If you’re a local parent and you hang out in any mom groups, chances are you’ve heard of Kat Tomasewski and her blog, Mom On The Go In Holy Toledo. Tomasewski started blogging in 2011 as a way to expand her social reach to interact with other moms going through the same things she was.
Before blogging, Tomasewski was the head organizer of a local playgroup, and her love of sharing things with other moms helped fuel her passion for blogging. Whether you’re looking into ways to implement a healthy lifestyle within your family or you need ideas for your next family outing, Tomasewski is definitely your girl.
Her advice to the new mom? “You are enough for your child. Don’t second guess yourself, and take advice with a grain of salt.”
Macaroni Kid – Toledo, by Ann Baisden
Macaroni Kid is a national entity that blogs about parenting-related topics. They also have local representatives who publish weekly local newsletters covering events and fun activities to do with your little ones.
Macaroni Kid has been a major lifeline for us — helping us find something to do on the days when we’re bored at home — so I have to give a huge thank you to Ann Baisden for bringing Macaroni Kid to the Toledo area.
Baisden took hold of Macaroni Kid – Toledo in April 2017 because she loves finding fun things to do with her son but hated having to spend so much time researching the best deals through Facebook and other websites. Because we all know she isn’t the only mom who feels this way (I know I certainly do), she wanted to find a way to become a dependable resource for all Toledo-area families.
When asked her advice for the new mom, Baisden said, “Don’t feel like you have to compete with other moms. Don’t feel guilty when you spend naptime doing something for yourself. Happy moms are the best moms!”
MomsEveryday
If you’re a local news watcher, you’ve probably already heard of MomsEveryday. Not only is MomsEveryday an online outlet for moms, but they also have a segment on channel 13. If you’ve paid attention to MomsEveryday lately, you may have even seen some of our own contenders on this list featured for one reason or another.
What makes MomsEveryday so great is that they not only feature local events and people, but they also talk about a wide range of topics from water safety in the summertime to safe sleeping habits.
Consider them your one-stop shop for all your parenting needs! MomsEveryday provides plenty of advice to the new mother on their website through their blog articles, as well as their discussion table during their television segment.
Brittany, Herself
Last but certainly not least, we have Brittany Gibbons of Brittany, Herself. Gibbons has managed to build quite the following for herself and her blog with appearances on TV shows like “Good Morning America” and the “Today Show,” as well as magazines like Glamour and Marie Claire.
Brittany, Herself has become widely known not only in our area, but throughout the country, as well, with recognition by Babble and Yahoo! Blogs.
We could go on and on about Gibbons’ successes all day, but perhaps her best success is as a mother to three school-aged kids. What I find so refreshing with Gibbons’ blog is how she takes her experiences through parenthood and makes them so relatable, whether your kids are the same age as hers or you still have a toddler like I do. She writes with a great sense of humor and wisdom that can only come with becoming a mother.
I want to thank each of these wonderful ladies for being an amazing resource for me and every other mom in our area who needs that digital friend to rely on. You ladies truly rock!
