The 5 Best Donut Shops in Philly

The 5 Best Donut Shops in Philly

Check out this list of Philadelphia’s most delicious doughnut shops to take the kids!

Now that January is over, most of us have eased up a bit on our New Year’s resolution to eat better. (No? That was just me?). Well, it’s time to start looking forward to food again! And by food, I specifically mean the kind of stuff that New Year’s resolutions strictly prohibit: doughnuts. Not that any of our kids were swearing off doughnuts in the first place. Ah, to be young again.

Now, there are plenty of places to get a doughnut in this city, but few are as fun for the whole family as these. Between creative creations (ice cream sandwiches), interesting flavor combinations (lavender), and all the crazy toppings you can shake a crueller at (cereal on a doughnut!), this list is perfect for any parent, babysitter, or nanny looking for a doughnut place to take the kids to in Philly!

Federal Donuts

Address: 1632 Sansom St., Philadelphia, PA 19103

Phone: 215-665-1101

Their slogan is “coffee, doughnuts, chicken.” So let that tell you everything you need to know about this company. There are actually six local locations where you can go to get some doughnuts with your little ones, including one at Citizens Bank Park, which is perfect for those Phillies games. (Can you believe spring training is already here?!) With fun flavors like strawberry lavender and chocolate caramel banana, these are doughnuts you won’t find just anywhere. And based on the success of the Eagles (and Federal Donuts’ limited run of Iggles doughnuts), I don’t think it’s too early to start talking about some maroon-and-baby-blue creations.

Beiler’s Doughnuts

Address: 3900 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA 19104
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 6:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Phone: 215-921-5874

I’m not even going to tout their hand-rolled doughnuts or their handmade cream fillings, which are made from ingredients locally sourced in Lancaster County. Instead, I’m just going to say three words to you: Fruity Pebbles doughnut. Just try talking your child (and inner child) into another choice once they lay their eyes on this doughnut. Not that there aren’t plenty of other amazing choices, like M&M’s and s’mores. I could go on, but I won’t because I’m already mentally eating every doughnut on the menu. With multiple locations (including the bustling Reading Terminal Market and road trip-worthy Lancaster County spaces), there’s bound to be at least one Beiler’s located conveniently near you.

Factory Donuts

Address: 7114 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19135
Hours: Monday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Tuesday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. | Friday & Saturday, 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. | Sunday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Phone: 215-338-6000

Factory Donuts may as well be renamed Fancy Donuts for all of the gorgeous options they offer, like maple bacon explosion, blueberry bake, and mint chocolate chip to name a few. While these may sound like high-end artisan doughnuts that only the most discerning palette would enjoy, I assure you there are options even the pickiest toddler will love. Their menu also offers French toast and strawberry lemonade doughnuts. I mean, come on! Adults, do yourselves a favor and get one of their famous coffees while you’re there, as well. *imitates chef’s kiss*

Dottie’s Donuts

Address: 4529 Springfield Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. | Saturday & Sunday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Phone: 215-662-0379

Calling all vegans! Or people interested in sampling dairy-free fare. Dottie’s has a great selection of vegan doughnuts to choose from. (They also have bottomless coffee for those who partake.) As a bonus, this shop is a little on the louder side, so you don’t have to worry as much about bringing your noisier tykes. And since they don’t offer free wifi, chances are you aren’t going to run into a lot of worker types giving you and your sugar-filled kids the stink eye while they try and finish their TPS reports.

Frangelli’s Bakery

Address: 847 W. Ritner St., Philadelphia, PA 19148
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. | Sunday, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Phone: 215-271-7878

Do your kids want doughnuts but also kinda want ice cream? Then let me introduce you to Frangelli’s, where they serve ice cream sandwiches that substitutes the bread with doughnuts. Did your blood turn to confectioner’s sugar just by reading that description? If so, you can opt for just a regular old doughnut, sans ice cream (but what kid is going to do that?) And to think, we thought breakfast desserts peaked at ice cream and waffles on the boardwalk!
