Check out these hidden gems to find some of the most decadent doughnuts around!
Is it “beach body” time yet? We still have a couple months to bundle up and pack on the layers before putting in some hard time at the gym. Central Florida’s most delicious doughnuts are here to satisfy you now and help you work harder when you’re Crossfitting — or whatever it is the kids are doing these days.
If you’re thinking about going on a sugar binge, skip the big chains like Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme. We have fresh, local options around town that will have you saying, “Dunkin’ Kreme what? Krispy Donuts who?” Spend some time finding your family’s favorite, or let your babysitter or nanny take the kids so you can conserve your calories for something else — like cheese, bread, pasta, cake, pie… OK, I’ll stop. Just check out these 10 great places to get some of the best doughnuts around town!
Valkyrie Doughnuts
Address: 12226 Corporate Blvd., Orlando, FL 32817
Hours: Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. | Friday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. | Sunday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Valkyrie makes giant doughnuts. Seriously. One of their doughnuts is equal to about two or three normal doughnuts, so keep that in mind if you’re ordering for a bunch of little ones. Find something they can all share! If you’re interested in something even bigger, there’s a $30 doughnut that’s the equivalent of about 16 to 24 normal doughnuts. They make their doughnuts fresh all day, so they rarely run out. No need to worry about rushing out for an early breakfast! If you’re not near their location around the University of Central Florida, Valkyrie does deliver doughnuts to Valhalla Bakery in downtown Orlando fresh every morning.

3716 Howell Branch Court, Winter Park, FL 32792 | P: 321-316-4817
Hours: Minneola location open 24/7 | Winter Park open daily, 5 a.m. – 9 p.m.
When you ask around, you’ll generally hear that Donut King is an Orlando favorite. They offer a lot of the classic doughnuts you know and love, like glazed, jelly, and Boston cream. But don’t be afraid to try something new, like the Heath Bar, M&M’s, or Oreo doughnuts. Their apple fritters are equally as delicious as their doughnuts. Donut King makes cake and raised doughnuts. Not sure what that means? Well, cake doughnuts are generally more dense and cake-like, leavened with baking powder. Raised doughnuts are leavened with yeast. They’re pre-cut and allowed to rise before frying, giving them a lighter, fluffier consistency. Pick your favorite, or try both!
The Glass Knife
Address: 276 S. Orlando Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789
Hours: Open daily, 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Phone: 407-500-2253
This is a new one, and it is a very swanky place. My husband and I rolled over here after a delicious dinner in Winter Park just to check it out, but we ended up stuffing ourselves even more with the Glass Knife’s truly stunning desserts. On our way out, an employee told us to make sure to come back early to try the doughnuts. They’re available from 7 a.m. until they’re gone, and I’ve heard they go quickly! Sure, they have the traditional glazed doughnut. But that’s not what you’re here for. Check out the lemon meringue, blueberry streusel, or pistachio orange, among other fancy flavors. You won’t be disappointed that you got up early for these.
Lard Lad Donuts
Address: 6000 Universal Blvd., Orlando, FL 32819 (Universal Studios Florida)
Hours: Open during theme park hours.
Phone: 407-363-8000
Universal Orlando just announced that the famous Voodoo Doughnuts will be making its way to CityWalk this year. But until then, Lard Lad still owns the doughnut scene around these parts. You may recognize the name from “The Simpsons.” This is the place Homer goes to for his giant, pink-frosted glazed doughnut fix. Mmmm, doughnuts. You’ll find these sweet treats here daily, and they never run out. Not in the mood for doughnuts? Check out the D’oh-Nut Sundaes or multitude of delicious cupcakes also made at Lard Lad.
Bakery Plus
Address: 915 E. Michigan St., Orlando, FL 32806
Hours: Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Saturday, 6 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Phone: 407-849-1888
Bakery Plus on Michigan Street near South Orange Avenue offers some of the most decadent doughnuts in Orlando. Try the Fruity Pebble- or Oreo-covered doughnuts! The treats are crushed and sprinkled over the top of frosted, glazed doughnuts. And if you’re not really in the mood for doughnuts, let the kids indulge and try the bakery’s bagels, croissants, or sandwiches. Even better: They have a drive-thru!

OK, watch this video and tell me you’re not intrigued. They offer all the classics in raised-doughnut form, as well as apple fritters, bismarcks, and cinnamon rolls. If you’re looking for something less run-of-the-mill, they have flavors like Nutty Buddy, blueberry almond crunch, and cinnamon swirl. Be sure to check their Facebook page before heading out, as the flavors change weekly. For example, we’ve seen such creative confections as Kit Kat bar and strawberry lemonade. If you’re in West Orlando, you can’t miss DG Doughnuts!

They. Have. Cronuts! Hot apple cronuts, to be exact, and much more. Donuts To Go in Sanford is a great little place, where you can also get breakfast and brunch, with all items priced under $15. They always have the most creative doughnut options and seasonal flavors. According to reviews, flavors like the toasted coconut with chocolate drizzle and chocolate peanut butter are among customer favorites. They even have the infamous bacon doughnut!
Joy Donuts
Address: 20010 US-441, Mount Dora, FL 32757
Hours: Saturday & Sunday, 8 a.m. until sold out
Phone: 330-692-0035
Joy Donuts can be found between US-441 and Wolf Branch Road in Mount Dora, one of my favorite hidden gems around Central Florida. They have very limited hours, so you can imagine how delicious and high-demand these doughnuts truly are. If you’re up for a weekend morning of window shopping and park-strolling in Mount Dora, make sure you stop by this little truck and pick up some treats on your way. According to their website, they generally sell out by 11 a.m. So get it while the gettin’s good!
Mobile, Pop-Ups, & Private Orders
Locations:
Check out some other mobile doughnut options closer to Orlando. Orlandough offers an online order form and delivers throughout the week. They work out of their home, but they do offer customers the opportunity to pick up their pre-ordered doughnuts from the cottage in College Park. It’s $30 per dozen doughnuts, plus an additional $5 for delivery within a 10-mile radius around downtown Orlando. Check out their Instagram account for visuals of all the latest flavors, including but not limited to matcha coconut.
Smoke & Donuts is a mobile bistro that also offers amazing barbecue options. Their Facebook page lists all the events they attend, so you’ll know where to find them. They show up everywhere from College Park to Winter Springs!
Last but never least, the Little Blue Donut Co. truck is one of my favorites. Just like Smoke & Donuts, they list their locations in events on their Facebook page. It’s easy to keep up with if you click the “Interested” button on these events. You’ll get notifications ahead of the event. They offer some delectable made-to-order cake doughnuts that you won’t soon forget!
