One Instagram mama’s message is resonating with many new moms across the Internet: “Breastfeeding is hard.”
Leah Beyer, also known as The Nashville Bump on Instagram, authored a post last week about her struggles with breastfeeding her newborn daughter, and it’s already garnered nearly 8,000 likes.
“Ok, I’m going to say it for us all. Breastfeeding is hard. It’s really, really hard,” the new mom wrote. “Sometimes I can’t even explain what makes it so difficult. The uncertainty, second guessing, responsibility, commitment, discomfort…just to name a few. “
Beyer gave birth to Penelope nearly seven weeks ago, and is sharing her story with the world as she navigates the ins and outs of motherhood.
“We trusted our bodies to grow our babies for 9 months and now we have to trust our body to supply the nourishment for our babes growth & development. Talk about pressure,” she wrote in an 256 word Instagram post.
The 25-year-old mom sounded off on the perils of breastfeeding in a recent interview about her viral post.
“I had seen so many pictures on social media of mothers blissfully breastfeeding their babies that I didn’t realize it’s not always like that,” she told the Huffington Post. “It seemed so easy and natural for them, but even things that are easy and natural can be a learning experience for many people.”
Her battle with breastfeeding is well-documented on her personal Instagram account, and according to the Huffington Post, Beyer is now seeing a lactation consultant.
In her post, Beyer wrote, “We so badly want to have our baby thrive. We want that relationship. We want the experience. In the end, fed is best. That’s what matters.”
