How You Can Help Families with The Back to School Transition

Be invaluable to your employer at this stressful time of the year.

As the summer holidays come to an end parents will find themselves flustered with school runs, lunch making, uniform washing, book buying, and the list goes on. This is a great opportunity for nannies and babysitters to get some extra work while unburdening parents from undue stress.

Looking for a childcare job? Find families in your area now.

Here are 4 services that you can offer to your employer to help them get through the back to school transition:

1. Before-school prep

Getting the kids ready in the morning can be a stressful time for any parent. Offer to come over early in the morning so you can get the kids up, dressed, prepare breakfast and lunches, and any other morning tasks that may be needed. If the parents are getting ready for work themselves this allows them to have their shower and coffee in peace. If transport is an option you can offer to drop the kids to school.

2. After-school care

After-school childcare can be a gift for parents, particularly for those who work into the evening. Offer to pick the kids up from school and to take them to their after-school activities or home to do their homework. It will be a relief to parents if you can help their kids with homework, music practice, sports practice or dinner preparation before they get home from work.

When offering this service to parents, make an example of an evening schedule. Include the children’s activities, homework schedule, limited amount of TV time (depending on the family rules) and bed time.

3. Housekeeping duties

If you are happy to take on more than childcare, offer your services to help with meal prep, washing clothes, light tidying or any other housekeeping duties that you are willing to do. These tasks can be completed while the kids are at school or in the evening when they are finishing their homework. Having these jobs taken care of will be a burden lifted for parents in the mornings and evenings.

4. Babysitting

Babysitting is another service you can offer parents to help with the back to school transition. If they need to stay late in work, go to an evening class or are having a date night, providing mid-week evening care can be a huge help. Of course, the family must stick to a fair schedule: if you are providing early morning care, it might not be feasible or fair for you to work late into the evening too.
