Target Offers Discounts on Car Seats If You Recycle an Old One

MINNEAPOLIS — If you have no use for your child’s old car seat, cash in on Target’s new program.

Donate that old hunk of plastic to a Target store to get a 20 percent discount on a new car seat.

Even if your child doesn’t need a new one, the program is an excellent way to upcycle an old car seat.

Target has partnered with TerraCycle, a New Jersey company that makes products from pre-consumer and post-consumer waste.

The retail giant is running the car seat recycling event from April 17-30 — just in time for Earth Day!

The 20 percent off coupon for a new car seat is valid through the end of May, so parents have time to research the best one for their needs.

“Instead of throwing your old car seat away, you have the opportunity to give it a new life by recycling it at participating Target stores,” TerraCycle said in a statement. “In return for preventing this waste from being sent to landfill, recycling your car seat will earn you a discount on a new one!”

When you bring an old car seat to your local Target, look for bins at the front of the store or in the children’s section. Target team members will provide you with the coupons.

The retailer tested out the program at 90 stores last September and received a lot of positive feedback.

The initial test led to the first official trade-in program of its kind at Target stores across the U.S.
