RECALL ALERT: Over 200,000 Britax Car Seats Recalled for Possible Choking Hazard

The baby gear company has begun sending out free replacement kits to customers in order to correct the problem.

RECALL ALERT: Over 200,000 Britax Car Seats Recalled for Possible Choking Hazard

Britax, a popular children’s product company, issued a major recall of more than 200,000 infant car seats. The company discovered that the chest clips may break, which poses a choking hazard to babies riding in the seat.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, 207,037 Britax B-Safe car seats have a “center tab on the chest clip marked ‘ABS’ that may break,” prompting fears that infants may try to swallow the broken clip.

While no injuries have been reported, the following models of Britax rear-facing car seats, produced between Nov. 1, 2015, and May 31, 2017, are being recalled as a precaution:

  • B-Safe 35 and travel systems

  • B-Safe 35 Elite and travel systems

  • BOB B-Safe 35

The U.K.-based company said that the car seats are still safe to use and has already begun contacting customers to issue a free replacement clip. The new clasps will be marked “PC,” so that parents and caregivers can differentiate between the recalled chest clip and the updated chest clip.

The car seats were sold in the U.S., Canada, and Israel. To find out if your child’s car seat is included in this recall, please check the date of manufacture and model number located on a label on the back of the car seat, or visit www.bsafe35clip.com to enter the seat’s serial number.

If you own a Britax B-Safe car seat and have not been contacted by the company, you may call them at 1-833-474-7016 to request a replacement clip.
