Real Story Spotlight: “My Neighborhood Didn’t Have Self-Service Pet Grooming Shops. So I Opened My Own.”

As part of a new Care.com series called, "Real Story Spotlight," we talked to Anja Rogalska, a small business owner in Brooklyn, NY, about her experience in the pet grooming business.

Real Story Spotlight: “My Neighborhood Didn’t Have Self-Service Pet Grooming Shops. So I Opened My Own.”

Brooklyn, NY – “I’m a dog enthusiast; I have two of my own. I’m originally from Poland. My family immigrated here when I was a teenager. I moved to Colorado for college and enjoyed the place so much, I decided to stay there for an extra 12 years.

When I moved back to New York, I lived in a small studio apartment with my two big dogs. It became a struggle to bathe them in my small bathroom and have them running around wet in my apartment. In Colorado, I used to use one of these self-service places, and I really missed it. Since there was nothing like that in the neighborhood, I decided to take a leap of faith and open up my own shop.

The first year was hard, but having my husband and family be there for me made it so much more real for me to keep going, to try hard, to prove to everyone that I can do it.”
