Real Story Spotlight: How Babysitting Helped Her Discover Her Dream Career

Columbus, OH – “I have a lot of experience with childcare. I have been babysitting since I was 13 for kids ranging from 3 months to 13 years. I volunteer at a church where I babysit, teach classes, and help run other activities for the children. I also work at a sports camp over the summer and run girls’ circles during the school year.

I love working with children. When I babysit, I’m really hands-on and interactive. I like to make sure that the kids are not just safe and cared for, but also learning through the games and activities we do together.

Right now I’m in grad school to be a school guidance counselor. Education is so important but now kids come into school with so many different things going on at home that keep them from succeeding academically. I want to help and counsel kids, especially at the elementary school level.”
