Real Story Spotlight: “I have the opportunity to bring the excitement and joy to kids that I always longed for.”

Portland, OR – “When I was a kid, I didn’t thrive in school and wished it could be a place where I could explore the things that excited me. Now, as a substitute teacher and childcare provider, I have the opportunity to bring the excitement and joy to kids that I, myself, always longed for.

More than anything else, I was especially delighted to find that I could really connect to children through song. When they sing with me, it fills me with joy. What’s more, they mirror my delight right back. We make up sounds and melodies together, all without a care in the world about “getting it right.” In fact, our bedtime singing has transformed a time of the day that most parents find really challenging to one of delight and joy—the part of the day all the kids I care for look forward to the most.”
