Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company has recalled some of its baby wipes after a routine quality inspection found mold on the products.
“We believe the affected product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences, however, impacted wipes do have a spotted discoloration and the aesthetics are unacceptable,” the company said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, The Honest Company has decided to voluntarily recall certain lots of this product.”
The wipes were sold in the United States and Canada and in addition to being sold on their own were also included in Honest Diaper Cakes, Baby Basics Gift Sets and Baby Arrival Gift Sets.
The Honest Company co-founder Christopher Gavigan released a video statement to customers as well. In it, he holds up what can be assumed are the mold-infected wipes, which have small gray circles in a few spots.
Gavigan also explained in the video that the mold found during the routine inspection is the type that is “found on citrus plants, like a common orange.”
Parents and caregivers concerned that they might have purchased the contaminated baby wipes can check with the company by entering the lot number (found on the back of the wipes) here.
“Consumers may return affected product to their point of purchase for a full refund,” the company said.
In January, The Honest Company recalled its organic baby powder after testing found possible contamination that’s associated with skin or eye infections.
