Are in-home senior care jobs the employment wave of the future? The latest figures out of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics signal yes. “Personal care aides” and “home health aides” are projected to grow by 22% between 2022-2032, which is considered “much faster than average.” Both require a high school diploma or equivalent and short on-the-job training.
Partly driven by baby boomers rapidly hitting retirement age, the U.S. population age 65 and over grew nearly five times faster than the total population between 1920 and 2020, according to the 2020 Census. In 2020, about 1 in 6 people in the U.S. were age 65 and over. By comparison, in 1920, this proportion was less than 1 in 20. In addition, by 2030, all baby boomers will be age 65 and over and with the growing desire to age in place at home, it’s no wonder home care jobs are predicted to pour in.
