There’s nothing like spending time with friends and family on a warm summer evening. What could be better than catching fireflies and watching them glow?
Kids love this treasured summer pastime and we will be sure to cherish the memories of watching them appreciate and learn about nature.
All you’ll need is a jar with a moist paper towel in the bottom so that your fireflies will be able to breathe and it stays humid in the jar. Grab a net and let’s go have some fun!
Don’t forget to turn off the exterior lights around your house so that you can see the fireflies. Try shining a flashlight up and down or repeating the light patterns you see the fireflies emitting to attract them to you. When you get close enough, carefully catch them using your net and put them in the jar that’s been prepared with the paper towel.
Watching the kids scream with delight as they dart back and forth in the dark swinging their nets is a priceless memory we can all treasure. Don’t forget to let your fireflies go at the end of the night!
