My kids love tacos. In fact, they would eat tacos every day if I let them. It’s almost an obsession!
Because they’re so into this cuisine, l decided to research options that are healthy and filling. I started with Taco Bell since it’s an easy place to buy tacos when I don’t have time to cook. Here’s what I found.
Soft Tacos: I usually steer my kids in this direction. They can eat three Fresco Chicken Soft Tacos and only consume 420 calories and 10.5g of fat. Plus, the chicken, steak or beef gives this meal a boost of protein my growing kids need.
Burrito Supreme: One supreme burrito will fill up my kids, which is good because it has 390-420 calories! Make it a Fresco supreme to cut 50 calories.
Black Beans and Rice: Every once in a while, my kids ask for more than a single taco. That’s when I order a side of Black Beans and Rice. It’s hearty and only has 180 calories. If your kids like spice, add Border Sauce.
Fresco: We all know that cheese, sour cream and sauces add calories and fat to most of the options on Taco Bell’s menu. Go Fresco instead. It replaces some of the unhealthy ingredients with pico de gallo and is an easy way to make most Taco Bell menu items skinny.
Salads: While I love taco salads, they can have as many as 780 calories! It’s better to choose something else or split one.
I’m excited that we can now eat tacos on the go. When my kids yell, “Take me to taco bell mom!” I know I can give them healthy and filling options. What is your healthy go-to meal when your kids want tacos?
