So you’re finally ready to cut your little one’s hair? Don’t just settle for the standard toddler trim — go ahead and try out one of these fabulous toddler haircuts! Brittany Rosario, a New York City children’s stylist and haircut expert, suggests going with a faux hawk for a little boy (see below). Working on small kids as clients is difficult at times, she notes, but making kids feel good about their hair is a great reward.
Nothing looks cuter than a short angled bob on a little girl, suggests Texas children’s stylist Bertha Medina of Snip-its in Houston. However, she stresses, you have to make sure that everyone likes the style. When cutting a toddler’s hair, the stylist must “meet the needs of both the parent and the child,” she notes. Let your kid have some say — but that doesn’t mean you have to agree to everything. Just because they want one-inch bangs doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen!

After all is said and done, don’t worry if you pick a haircut that doesn’t work for you or your child. It will always grow out! To get the best haircut, visit a trusted stylist. If you can locate one who works specifically with children, even better. Avoid cutting your child’s hair yourself — unless you happen to also work as a stylist. Many a mom has given a kid a crazy hairdo without meaning to!
